Part 5 B
Sixteenth Note Syncopation
In Session 5b we will be opening up 16th note syncopation!!!
We’ll be looking at two songs for context to play these beats in: So in Need, from the C.D. Dwell and Teach me the fear of the Lord, from the Club Vineyard C.D. Fill me now.
16th Notes are counted out as “One-E-and-ah, Two-E-and-ah, Three-E-and-ah, Four-E-and-ah” in a 4/4 measure. We will be looking at placing 16th notes (specifically inside beats – E and Ah) on the snare and Bass drum.
There are countless lessons that could be written on this subject – and this session is intended only to open up the concept... It will take weeks even months to work through all the possibilities. The idea is to place another useful tool in our toolbox. There are many excellent books that were written to continue in this area such as Charles Dowd “A Funky Primer.” With dozens of 16th note syncopation, this book is an encyclopedia of exercises!
